La comunidad de Las Mercedes, aquí en nuestro pueblo Villa de Cura, en el estado Aragua, en Venezuela, ha dado personajes muy difíciles de olvidar, como la señorita Carmen Colmenares Carrasquel, la mujer de las tres "C".
Nació el 16 de abril de 1921, allí mismo, en su parroquia, y murió el 6 de febrero del 2016, faltando solo cinco años y dos meses para cumplír los cien. La Srta. Carmen Colmenares se desenvolvió en dos esferas: en la espiritual y en la terrenal.
Después de realizar su Primera Comunión se dedicó a dar catequesis en su casa donde vivía con su madre, Arnalda Carrasquel de Colmenares.En su casa tenía una bodeguita, con una vieja vitrina de madera y tela metálica donde exhibía su dulcería criolla que ella misma preparaba para la venta.
Experta en manualidades era la encargada de realizar las coronas para difuntos a la más humilde usanza, con flores de papel en su alambrito. Modista también, era la indicada para la confección de los trajes de novia, de Primera Comunión, Bautizos y para las quinceañeras.También distribuía sus famosas arepas de budare y en su gran horno de leña confeccionaba tortas para la venta y para engalanar la mesa de alguna cumpleañera o de alguna celebración del Santoral.Hay una anécdota de una señora que ya cuenta con 75 años, quien relata que su madre encargó a la Srta. Carmen la elaboración de su vestido para la celebración de sus 15 años, pero... (siempre el "pero")...la muy linda escogió un modelito algo atrevido para la mentalidad de la Srta. Carmen y cuando fue muy contenta a probárselo por primera vez escuchó las siguientes palabras con mucha firmeza de parte de la Srta. Carmen: " Le hice una chaquetica para que se cubra, porque es muy descotado y su mamá se va a disgustar"
Aparte de sus labores domésticas, tenía un don para ensalmar el "mal de ojo" con ramitas que seleccionaba de su agradable jardín. También era experta "cosedura" de pies dislocados ¡Cómo la buscaban para estos menesteres" Rezandera de difuntos y colaboradora de la iglesia ¡Ni hablar! Era la activa Presidenta de la Sociedad de la Santa Cruz y Presidenta Honoraria de la Sociedad de la Virgen de Las Mercedes, en esa época en que los socios aportaban un bolívar para cubrir los gastos de la fiesta.
Bondadosa, caritativa, daba de comer al menesteroso, los recortes de las tortas y dulcerías los repartía.
Y todavía le alcanzaba el tiempo para pasar todas las tardecitas por el hospital para ayudar a alguien que lo necesitara.
No tuvo hijos pero crió a un sobrino y a los hijos de dicho sobrino y ellos aprendieron de su ejemplo y enseñanzas a estar siempre dispuestos a ayudar a quien lo necesite.
Dios ¡Qué falta hace en estos tiempos esa ingenuidad, fraternidad, amor a la humanidad, esa consagración de servidores públicos no como una etiqueta politiquera sino como una vivencia genuina de amor al prójimo expresado en buenas obras!
The community of Las Mercedes, here in our town Villa de Cura, in the state of Aragua, in Venezuela, has produced characters that are very difficult to forget, such as Miss Carmen Colmenares Carrasquel, the woman with the three "C's".
She was born on April 16, 1921, right there, in her parish, and died on February 6, 2016, missing only five years and two months to turn one hundred. Ms. Carmen Colmenares developed in two spheres: in the spiritual and in the earthly.
After making her First Communion, she dedicated herself to teaching catechism at home where she lived with her mother, Arnalda Carrasquel de Colmenares. In her house she had a small cellar, with an old wood and wire mesh display case where she displayed her Creole candys that she herself prepared for sale.
An expert in crafts, she was in charge of making the crowns for the deceased in the most humble way, with paper flowers in her little wire.She was also a dressmaker, she was the one for making wedding dresses, First Communion dresses, Baptisms and for 15th birthday of girls.
She also distributed her famous "arepas de budare" and in her large wood oven she made cakes for sale and to decorate the table of a birthday girl or some celebration of the Santoral.
There is an anecdote of a lady who is already 75 years old, who relates that her mother commissioned Ms. Carmen to make her dress for her 15th birthday celebration, but... (always the "but").. .the very pretty girl chose a somewhat daring outfit for Miss Carmen's mentality and when she was very happy to try it on for the first time, she heard the following words very firmly from Miss Carmen: "I made you a jacket so you could cover it up, because it's very low-cut and your mom will be upset"
Aside from her housework, she had a knack for soothing the "evil eye" with twigs she selected from her pleasant garden. She was also an expert "stitching" dislocated feet. How were they looking for her for these tasks? Praying for the dead and collaborating with the church. Not to mention!She was the active President of the Society of the Holy Cross and Honorary President of the Society of the Virgin of Las Mercedes, at that time when the partners contributed a bolivar to cover the expenses of the party.
Kind, charitable, she fed the needy, distributed the cuttings from the cakes and pastries. And she still had enough time to spend every afternoon at the hospital to help someone who needed it.
She had no children but raised a nephew and the children of that nephew and they learned from her example and teachings to always be willing to help those who need it.
God, what is missing in these times is that ingenuity, fraternity, love for humanity, that consecration of public servants not as a political label but as a genuine experience of love for one's neighbor expressed in good deeds!
